Pokémon TCG’s Paradise Resort Promo Card Is An Ongoing Joke
Artwork Features Several Creatures Surfing In Honolulu
The new print of the Paradise Resort card is something of a joke for players and collectors. In terms of gameplay effects, the promo card being handed out during Pokémon Worlds 2024 reduces the Retreat Cost of each Psyduck in play by one colorless Energy – this effect affects both the player’s and the opponent’s Psyducks). The funny thing about it is that, among the several creatures featured in the Paradise Resort card forPokémon TCG,Psyduck is not at the forefront of the artwork, but almost hidden in the background.
“Players and collectors will be able to put their hands on the new promo card in August.”
The Pokémon Worlds 2024 version of Paradise Resort features Pikachu and an Alolan Raichu at the front, surfing the waves alongside a Palafin and followed by a Gholdengo, a Lechonk riding a Mantine, an Alolan Exeggutor, and a Squawkabilly. Flying in the distance, just above the waves, is a Psyduck. This has been a recurring joke since last year, in which the first version of Paradise Resort also features a number of Pokémon with Psyduck left behind in the distance, even if its gameplay effect inPokémon TCGis directed toward it.
The new promo card for Pokémon Worlds 2024 is more of a memento for players and collectors who attended the event than actual deck-building strategy. There are not many decks in the current meta that abundantly use Psyduck to the point that this card would be valuable in terms of gameplay. Nevertheless,Paradise Resort’s status as an event-exclusive promo card, which is also part of a recurring joke make it extremely valuable.
Pokémon Worlds 2023’s version of Paradise Resort is priced at $699 onTCGPlayerat the time of writing.
Players and collectors will be able to put their hands on the new promo card in August, as the Worlds 2024 event is set to occur between August 16 and August 18. Of course, the game will continue to grow throughout the year, with therelease ofPokémon TCG: Shrouded Fableset for early August, followed by more sets expected to arrive later on.
