Which Jason Enters The Store The Second Time In Dark Matter Episode 7’s Ending

Dark Matter Seemingly Introduces A Third Jason In Episode 7’s Ending

InDark Matterepisode 7’s closing scene, Jason1 seemingly arrives in his original universe. After taking one look at his house and realizing he has finally made it to his desired destination, he visits a store to buy a gun. However, since he does not have a license to own one, he settles for a dagger to defend himself against Jason2. Moments after he leaves the store with the weapon, another Jason barges in, asking for a gun. Since the Apple TV+ show has only focused on two versions of Jason so far, one might assume that it was Jason2 who entered the store after Jason 1.

Every time Jason1 made a choice during his multiversal pursuits inside the box, he created an alternate version of himself.

However, the fact that Jason1 saw Jason2 in his home moments before he arrived at the store suggests thatthe Jason who arrived at the store was a third iteration of the Joel Edgerton character. According toDark Matter’s portrayal of the many-worlds interpretation, reality forks into many alternate versions everytime someone makes a choice in the original universe. Owing to this, Jason1’s reality was also likely split into many different ones after Jason2 swapped places with him in his universe.

Every time Jason1 made a choice during his multiversal pursuits inside the box, he created an alternate version of himself. The new Jason at the store could be another version of him who now wants revenge on Jason2 for uprooting his life. This could mean that there are infinitely many Jasons out there, driven by the same pursuit of returning to their original world and reuniting with Daniela.

Is Jason1 Actually In The Correct Universe In Dark Matter Episode 7’s Ending?

Jason1 Has Finally Manifested The Correct Universe

Many clues suggest that Jason1 has finally landed in the right universe. For instance, Jason1 notices that The Box’s entrance was sealed shut with concrete but later broken as soon as he arrives in his universe. This alone convinces him he is in the right world becauseJason2 would not want him to return. To confirm whether he is in the correct universe, Jason1 also visits his home and looks at his wife and son. He instantly recognizes them, further cementing that he manifested his desired world. He also spots Jason2 in his home, making him realize he must do something to stop him before it is too late.

What Dark Matter Episode 7’s Final Scene Means For Jason1

Jason1 Now Has To Deal With Several Versions Of Himself

Since every choice in the original universe can create infinitely many alternate versions, the show’s finale will likely introduce several more versions of Jason. Since all of them were technically removed from their respective universe by Jason2 (or a version of him) and forced inside The Box, they would all want vengeance. This could either benefit Jason1 as all the new Jasons would have a common motive, orit could further complicate his life because all of them would want his Daniela. Regardless of what happens, the Jason twist sets up an exciting, mind-bending finale forDark Matter.

How Does Dark Matter’s Interdimensional Travel Work? The Science Behind The Box Explained

Apple TV+’s Dark Matter uses real scientific concepts to craft its interdimensional travel, but how does Jason’s “Box” work in the show?

Why Jason2 Unblocks The Box’s Entrance

His Web Of Lies Forces Him To Run Away From His Problems

Even though Jason2 swaps places with Jason1 in his universe to be with Daniela again, he keeps messing things up with Daniela and Charlie. His failing relationship with the two makes him question whether he made the right decisions. As a result, he keeps wondering whether he should try his hand at another universe, where he can get a fresh start. Amanda’s version in Jason1’s universe is portrayed as a psychologist Jason2 often visits. She keeps reminding him thathe is running away from his problems instead of solving them.

Instead of running away from the situation, Jason2 breaks The Box’s entrance and visits a universe where Ryan is not too successful.

InDark Matterepisode 6, Daniela follows Jason2 and finds the mind-numbing drug he uses inside The Box. When she shows the drug to Ryan, he confronts Jason2 for stealing his chemical concoction. Jason2 tells him that he did not steal it, but, instead, created it himself. He then takes Ryan to an alternate universe through The Box, making Ryan realize he is not the Jason he knew from his universe. Fearing that Ryan will reveal his secret to Daniela, Jason2 leaves him in the parallel universe.

However, when Daniela suspects Jason2 did something to Ryan after a detective shows up at their house to ask about Ryan’s disappearance, Jason2 is forced to change his mind about The Box. Instead of running away from the situation, Jason2 breaks The Box’s entrance and visits a universe where Ryan is not too successful. He then brings that version of Ryan to the original Jason1 universe to convince Daniela that Ryan is not missing and that he did not harm him in any way.

Why Amanda Stays Behind In That Alternate Universe

Amanda Realizes She Cannot Keep Looking For The Ideal Universe

Midway throughDark Matterepisode 7, Amanda opens the door to a pleasant world where humans are incredibly kind to one another and co-exist in peace. In this alternate reality, her parallel self also seems to have gone missing and possesses enough assets to sustain her for the rest of her life. After acquiring her alternate version’s identity, Amanda tells Jason1 that her journey endsbecause Jason2 does not want her anymore, and Jason1 never belonged to her in the first place.

She also realizes that the pursuit of finding the perfect universe can never end because perfection does not exist. It is the little imperfections and one’s ability to face uncertainties that make a universe ideal. Therefore, after arriving in a universe that has hospitable conditions, Amanda settles down in Apple TV+‘sDark Matter.
