Quick Links
Microcosm is the first Heavy Exotic Trace Rifle introduced inDestiny 2and excels in PvE content. This weapon deals with kinetic damage and is only available to owners ofThe Final Shape. Additionally, the campaign must be beaten before the mission can be obtained. Microcosm has one of the longest questlines for an Exotic weapon in the game and will be quite challenging for many Guardians. You can get your hands on this Exotic as soon asThe Final Shapeis completed, but you must complete a series of tough missions.
Microcosm is only one of the many brand-new Exotic weapons to be added inThe FinalShape. UnlikeRed Death Reformed, this Trace Rifle can not be initially taken into the campaign. First, you will want to gain a much higher light level. This can be done simply by completing the campaign on any difficulty, but legendary rewards gear of 1960 Power level. Second, make a proper build that synergizes with your weapons. This can significantly increase your effectiveness in missions. Chances are that even following these steps, you will be at a lower light level for some of the missions. Therefore, creating a Fireteam will vastly improve the odds of success.

How To Get Convalescence: Budding (Microcosm Exotic Quest)
How To Start The Quest
Upon completingThe Final Shapecampaign, your Ghost will give you the “Destined Heroes” quest. While the reward states that theErgo Sum Exotic Swordwill be granted, Guardians must follow through until they can start the Convalescence series of quests. This will eventually lead to the Microcosm Exotic Trace Rifle being obtained. In the initial steps of “Destined Heroes,” complete the Queens, Part 1 activity. Afterward, return to the Vanguard table of the Lost City and interact with Micah’s Conduit to get the first Convalescence quest. You will need to complete"Convalescence: Rootbound." “Convalescence: Underbrush,” “Convalescence: Greenery,“and finally “Convalescence: Budding"to obtain the Microcosm.
Convalescence: Rootbound
Guardians will want to teleport to The Landing in the Pale Heart of The Traveler when tracking the quest.Make your way south into the Forgotten Deep Lost Sector. This activity does not need to be completed, but you must reach the final room.Interact with the lost ghost on a ledge near a large tree. Head back to the Lost City’s Vanguard room and take a right to interact with a Ghost Shell found just next to the growing tree. Interact with Micah’s Conduit again and receive a red-bordered Someday Shotgun and another quest, “Convalescence: Underbrush.”
Convalescence: Underbrush
The first part of the quest will have Guardians collecting two blessings from the traveler by opening two chests anywhere in the Pale Heart. These can be found by randomlysearching the area, locating one of the hidden chests on the destination map, or completing the events. Next, equip the two Flickering Blessings by opening up the Traveler’s Blessings menu on the Pale Heart destination map. Finally, travel back to the Lost City and interact with another ghost. Interact with Micah’s Conduit to obtain a red-bordered Pro Memoria and the “Convalescence: Greenery” quest.
Convalescence: Greenery
The first step is to open Overthrow chests in The Landing. Load into the area and participate in an Overthrow activity. This will require defeating Hive enemies and destroying crystals to obtain the chests. Next, players will see a Convalescence: Greenery icon on the map north of The Refraction. Head there and follow the light birds.Once you get close, it will fly where you must head. Eventually, you will enter a cave guarded by some powerful Hive enemies. Additionally, the pathway will be blocked by some Hive runes. After following all the quest steps, you must fight three lucent Hive and return to the Lost City. Interact with the ghost and Micah’s Conduit and receive the “Convalescence: Budding"Exotic quest.
How To Complete The Convalescence: Budding Quest
“Convalescence: Blessing” is the final part of this quest chain. Guardians must complete three campaign missions on the new Cooperative Focus difficulty. Ascent, Dissent, and Iconoclasm must all be challenged using this new mode. They can be accessed by selecting the Pale Heart destination map icons. These missions are extremely challenging and should be completed with a Fireteam. All three have unique mechanics that will be detailed below.
The Cooperative Focus Ascent, Dissent, and Iconoclasm missions have enemies at 2005 Power.

Fractured by the Witness
The Witness will randomly stack a Fracture debuff on a Guardian, and if it builds to x10, they will die. So, another player must interact with them to take the debuff. All Guardians need to juggle the debuff until they reach the next objective.

Berserkers
Getting close to these Berserkers, you will see the suppressed debuff, but one player must shoot the chest, and the other must shoot the back at the same time to do damage. Upon killing the Berserker, players must shoot the two Darkness Cruxes at the same time to synergize their shots and progress through the mission. These darkness Cruxes. Failing to synergize will cause the Berserkers to respawn.
Glyphtouched
One player can interact with Glyphs but cannot see the Glyph symbols, so players must communicate with other players on where the Glyphtouched must stand.
How To Use The Microcosm Exotic Trace Rifle
The Microcosm Exotic Trace Rifle sits in the Heavy slot and can damage enemies tremendously. There is no Catalyst for the weapon, but that is because the gun is already powerful enough. The Intrinsic TraitParacausal Beamstates that the Microcosm fires a beam of Kinetic light, dealing massive damage to shields. This is fantastic, as Kinetic weapons often have trouble dealing with elemental shields.
The Exotic TraitParacausal Imbuementstates that the final blows of this weapon grant Super energy. This Trace Rifle gains bonus damage once your Super expires. The extra damage while the Super is expired lasts for 20 seconds and is a 20% increase. Kinetic damage is excellent inThe Final Shapebecause it builds up both Light and Dark energy forPrismatic subclasses inDestiny 2.
