Destiny 2’s most OP weapon is still making Trials of Osiris a nightmare
Destiny 2 Episode Heresy’s meta-defining best weapon has continued to dominateTrials of Osirisand wider PvP despite receiving a double whammy nerf.
Bungie’sMarch 11 patchto introduceHeresy Act 2also significantly nerfed Redrix’s Estoc and the entire Lightweight Pulse archetype to which it belongs, reducing body shot and critical hit damage across the board while targeting Estoc with specific stat reductions.
On paper, the adjustments looked extensive enough to give other primary weapons a look-in for PvP, but no such luck. Redrix’s Estoc is still king of The Crucible andcontinues its streak of warping the metaaround it, especially in Trials of Osiris.
Redrix’s Estoc survives nerfs to dominate the meta
PerDestinyTrialsReport, which tracks individual weapon kills across all platforms for each iteration of the weekly four-day event, Redrix’s Estoc accounted for 16% of all kills in the activity, a measly reduction of 1% over the previous week.
Humorously, the Lightweight Pulse Rifle nerfs curbed their prevalence elsewhere. Outbreak Perfected suffered a harsh drop in kills and BxR-55 Battler disappeared from the top 10 entirely. Still, Estoc wracked up more than triple the number of kills than Tommy’s Matchbook – a popularExoticfor Hunters when paired with Radiant Dance Machines.
What happens from here? Well, Bungie’s track record of combating meta anomalies is nothing if not excellent. Nothing has been confirmed yet but a second balance pass is likely. The issue here, however, is that any further nerfs to Lightweight Pulse Rifles will unfairly neuter the entire archetype – Estoc needs to be directly targeted.
