Dexter: Original Sin Faces Two Big Cast Challenges

The New Cast Has Big Shoes To Fill

With theDexter: Original Sincastto also feature Slater as Harry and Brown as Debra, the upcoming show is set to bring back many characters with whom audiences are already familiar. This speaks to how the show will explore Dexter’s initial time with Miami Metro and his family life. While this familiarity will make it easy to jump into the story, it could also work against the show.

Dexter Morgan Was Inspired By A Real-Life Killer: True Story Explained

Dexter Morgan’s fictional character was shockingly inspired by a real-life vigilante killer who also exclusively murdered other dangerous criminals.

In any show, a key ingredient for success is the cast. TheDextercast, which included actors like Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, David Zayas, C.S. Lee, James Remar, and Luna Lauren Valez, among others, helped make the show popular, with each actor bringing his or her colorful character to life.New actors will now be playing characters that audiences have pre-established relationships to, formed across multiple seasons of the original show. It could be jarring for these familiar characters to return but played by new actors.

Another problem that faces any prequel is that audiences familiar with the original show already know what ends up happening to all of these characters. While this isn’t always a big deal, it does remove some of the narrative stakes for these pre-existing figures. The good news, however, is thatDexter: Original Sinfeatures original showrunner and executive producer Clyde Phillips back in those same roles, with Hall also executive producing. This, at least, suggests the prequel is in good hands.

Dexter: Original Sindoesn’t yet have a release date, but it will be available to stream on Paramount Plus with Showtime.
