An Update From The Producer
the producer made it clear that the movie was still in the early stages of development and is still taking shape behind-the-scenes.
A few months after the movie was formally introduced, the latest news comes asan update on theG.I. JoeandTransformerscrossover movie. The news comes directly fromproducer Lorenzo di Bonaventura who helped set a few things straight regarding the epic crossover. “I hesitate using the word crossover because I think people think different things about what that means,” warned di Bonaventura before explaining his take on the movie. “For me, what it means is the Joes are going to be in the Transformers world and be present,” said the producer, though what that exactly means remains unclear.
The comments from di Bonaventura suggest thatit won’t be a conventional meeting between the two beloved franchises, but that the Joes will enter the world ofTransformersin some wayor another. However, and perhaps most importantly, the producer made it clear that the movie was still in the early stages of development and is still taking shape behind-the-scenes.

Live-action we are going to deliver a G.I. Joe crossover. I hesitate using the word crossover because I think people think different things about what that means. For me, what it means is the Joes are going to be in the Transformers world and be present. I think every movie is sort of a balancing act of “How much do you have this? And in this movie, how funny can we be? How serious? How do you cross that line? How do you hide the villain?” All those sort of balancing things that you’re doing. We’re still in the early process, in a way, of trying to figure out the balance.

Amid a flurry of other announcements at the 2024 CinemaCon, Paramount officially revealed their plans for aG.I. JoeandTransformerscrossover movie. While details are still scant regarding the project,it has been given a wide release window of 2025 or 2026, and many of the behind-the-scenes details like the director and cast are still unknown.

Since the crossover movie was set up at the end of 2023’sTransformers: Rise of the Beasts,it is speculated that theG.I. JoeandTransformersmovie will follow up on the hit film. The conclusion saw Noah secretly recruited by G.I. Joe through Agent Burke, and it also established that Unicron was far from vanquished. This sets up an epic confrontation between the two forces as the villainous Unicron makes another attempt to devour Earth. This would make the crossover ostensibly a sequel toRise of the Beasts, but that isn’t the only option for Paramount.
Another possible story direction is a spinoff that is separate from the planned trilogy that was started byRise of the Beasts. With the revelation that G.I. Joe and the Transformers exist in the same universe, it’s possible that the crossover could be set in another part of the timeline and explore the history of the organization and how it connects to the Autobots. Since the crossover will likely reboot the G.I. Joe organization, it won’t be limited by the previous movies. Whatever director theG.I. JoeandTransformerscrossover chooses, it will certainly be exciting.
