As the world reflects on actor Gene Hackman’s legendary career, one of his most underrated movies is available to stream for free right now, and it’s well worth your time.
On February 27, news emerged that Hackman had been found dead in his Santa Fe home aged 95. His wife, 63-year-old pianist Betsy Arakawa, was also found dead at the scene, alongside their pet dog.
Their bodies were discovered on Wednesday (February 26), with the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Officesayingin a statement, “We do not believe foul play was a factor in their deaths. However, the exact cause of death has not been determined at this time.”
Hackman, who had since retired from acting, won twoOscarsthrough his illustrious career for his roles in The French Connection and Unforgiven. While he’s best known for his intense dramatic performances, he also had a knack for comedy, which he proved in The Birdcage.

They attempt to play it straight when their son brings home his fiancée’s ultra-conservative parents – one of whom is played by Hackman.
