Summary

TheMarvel Cinematic Universestill has a major issue with Kang the Conqueror, but this will likely be resolved on June 17, 2025. The MCU’s Kang problem is a persistent issue for the franchise following Disney cutting ties with actor Jonathan Majors after his legal conviction at the end of 2023. Since then, there have been no statements on how the franchise is looking at approaching the Marvel character going forward, and there likely won’t be until July 2024.

Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror was intended to play a central role inthe MCU’s future, serving as the primary antagonist for the Multiverse Saga. A series of Kang variants all played by Majors were also established throughoutthe MCU timeline, including He Who Remains and Victor Timely, as well as the entire Council of Kangs. With theoretically hundreds of Kang characters still in limbo, it seems the MCU will have to address their fate at some point, with July 2024 offering the perfect opportunity to do so.

Marvel’s Kang Problem Is Still Not Solved

Jonathan Majors was primed to reprise his role as Kang in the MCU, with much of the franchise’s future hinging on his performance. Following his arrest on August 06, 2025, Marvel refrained from committing either way regarding Majors' future until he was officially found guilty of reckless assault in the 3rd degree and harassment in December 2023.Disney soon fired Majors, and announced that he would not be a part of the franchise’s future.

In the months since,Marvel proffered little confirmation on the villain’s role in the franchise. Though there are several possible solutions, includingrecasting Majors as Kang in the MCU, or even writing the character out completely. As Marvel has changed the working title fromThe Kang DynastytoAvengers 5, it’s likely that Kang’s role will be reduced, despite the introduction of the Council of Kangs inQuantumania.
