Summary

Jurassic World 4gets a new story update that teases a return to the franchise’sJurassic Parkroots. After two sequels to Steven Spielberg’s 1993 blockbuster classic, the hit dinosaur franchise got a soft reboot in 2015, introducing audiences to new characters and a widened premise.Jurassic World 4is now moving forward, with Scarlett Johansson set to star opposite Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, and Jonathan Bailey, among others, with Gareth Edwards directing what has been described as something of another soft reboot for the franchise.

Now, a new report fromVarietyreveals thatJurassic World 4will feature a premise similar to that ofJurassic Park. The new film has been touted as"a completely fresh take launching a new Jurassic era, following three adults and three teens getting stuck on the Island.“The report also notes that the film has been referred to both as “Jurassic World 4"and “Jurassic City,” suggesting a title change could be on the way. The upcoming sequel is now also set to shoot in Thailand, Malta and the U.K.

Jurassic World 4 Needs To Go Back To Basics After Dominion

The Third Jurassic World Movie Was A Messy Conclusion

Although all threeJurassic Worldmovies were very successful commercially, the most recent installment in the franchise ended up being the worst-received movie in the franchise critically. TheJurassic World Dominionreviewstook issue with the film’s unbalanced story and surprising lack of exploration of the premise set up at the end ofJurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. That film ends with dinosaurs finally getting out into the world, teeing up an adventure that lives up to the movie’s title.

Jurassic World Dominion, however, doesn’t seem all that interested in exploring what it would mean if dinosaurs and humans were truly forced to live side-by-side. For this and other reasons, the film earned a lackluster 29% onRotten Tomatoes. In addition to just needing a course correction after the previous movie, theJurassic World Dominionendingalso leaves little room for the franchise to go any bigger, meaning going back to a more contained story could be the right move.

Jurassic World 4’s “New Era” Can Fix An Original Steven Spielberg Jurassic Park Mistake

Since Jurassic World 4 is rebooting the franchise, this “New era” can fix one major character mistake that 1993’s original Jurassic Park made.

This back-to-basics approach makes sense given that original movie writer David Koepp is returning to pen theJurassic World 4script. Combined with a top-notch cast and Edwards' directing chops, the upcoming film has the potential to tell a thrilling and intense story on a smaller scale. While individual opinions will vary, the originalJurassic Parkis still widely considered the best entry in the franchise, andJurassic World 4now seems poised to recapture some of that magic.
