Summary
Parks and Recreationstar Lucy Lawless discusses the possibility of her character, Diane Swanson, having trouble with her husband Ron. Played by Nick Offerman, Ron is a deadpan, stoic character in the beloved sitcom. Ron’s inclination towards alone time and no-nonsense is constantly in play and draws him towards eccentric women who usually go by the name Tammy. This changes when he meets Diane, a middle school vice principal who is no stranger to madness. They start a relationship in season 5 and later marry.
In an interview withScreen Rant, Lawless shares her thoughts on where she and Ron would be, considering the current election cycle. She saysthe couple would probably still be together, but specifies that they may be on different sides politically, with them probably butting heads. Read Lawless’ full quote below:

Yes, but they might be having a tough time through this election cycle. Ron is politically quite conservative, and I’m not sure which way he would be going. I’m pretty sure Diane could not follow him.
Ron & Diane Are A Match Made In Heaven

Ron is a teddy bear trapped in a jaded man’s body, andDiane forces him to come out of his shell and breaks him out of a routine of chaotic relationships. This is first seen in their first meeting when Ron fixes a pothole in front of Diane’s house. After doing so, he’s forced to step out of his comfort zone and play princess with Diane’s two daughters, Ivy and Zoe, complete with Ron putting on make-up and having a tea party with the girls. This out-of-character moment makes Diane laugh, which, of course, vexes Ron.

Ron and Diane’s relationship changes Ronfor the better. And this is probably since they’re two sides of the same coin. Complimenting each other perfectly,Diane can get Ron to shed away his cold exterior to reveal the warm, cuddly side of him that was rarely seen. While all the reserved aspects of him don’t completely go away, Diane and her two daughters motivate Ron to become a more layered, complex character without completely doing away with the parts of Ron that are adored by viewers.
