Trying to upgrade your Graveyard Overdrive deck inMagic: The Gatheringis well worth it if you want to improve your win rate. A fair number of cards can be cut, and a few cards seem incredible that they left out. This set is part of theModern Horizons 3releasethat gives players four different commanders.

ThisCommander deck fromMagic: The Gatheringis very much centered on thegraveyard mechanics and putting Lhurgoyf and Tarmogoyfinto play. That is if you are playing Disa the Restless. You can also choose to play Coram, The Undertaker, who can put cards into play from the graveyard, but his ability is focused on land and spell cards. Both of them make good Jund decks, but as Disa is the face Commander, this guide will focus on making her stronger.

How The Magic: The Gathering Graveyard Overdrive Precon Deck Works

Graveyard and Sacrifice Mechanics

Thisnew Commander Precon deck fromMagic: The Gatheringuses Disa the Restless as your leader, who canput Lhurgoyfs into playwhen they are put into the graveyard and whocan create Tarmogofy tokens whenever you deal combat damage to another player. These are both very powerful abilities; you will want to be milling cards into your graveyard to take advantage of them.

The deck isblack, red, and greenand comes with a split strategy, partially focused on sacrifice mechanics and the other half focused on graveyard synergies. This can make it have some less efficient cards and plays, but they do work together, as you will want tobe putting cards into the graveyard to put them into play again. There is, however, an overabundance of lands, and if you are looking to upgrade, you will also be looking to shore up some of the weaknesses in the deck.

Best 10 Cards To Upgrade MTG: Graveyard Overdrive Precon Deck

More Creatures In Graveyard

According to Guys That Magic, the idea for upgrading this deck is mostly to find cards that are doing what you want to do already and doing it more efficiently than the ones in the Precon deck. This includesfinding more Lhurogoyfs, switching out some of your Planeswalkers to make them better, and bringing out the synergies of your deckeven more, such as finding cards that care about the number of creatures in your graveyard.

You will also put cards into your deck that help yousplit attacks and fill your board with Tarmogoyfs. There are a lot of very goodcards in theModern Horizon 3expansion, and many of these cards synergize with having creatures in the discard pile. This will be an ongoing theme for the upgrades for these cards, so pay attention to the options that allow you to have better cards based on your graveyard.

The Guys That Magic full upgrade is marked as a $100 upgrade. Not every card they listed is listed below.

The table below lists ten cards to add to your Graveyard Overdrive deck, as recommended by Guys That Magic, along with an idea of how they work with your deck:

Magic The Gathering Dominaria United Commander Decks Bundle 1

Legendary Creature - Treefolk

You want to put more cards into your graveyard, and milling is an excellent way to get Lhurgoyfs into your graveyard and put them into play when Disa is out. Additionally, Six can get her back out if she is not out and in your graveyard.

Legendary Creature/Planeswalker

The front side of Grist allows you to take advantage of moving creatures from your graveyard into the battlefield. Once Grist is transformed, he gives you even more tokens and a larger graveyard.

Wight of the Reliquary

Creature - Zombie Knight

The biggest advantage of Wight of the Reliquary is how massive it can be with all the creatures you are milling into your graveyard.

Creature - Lhurgoyf

While Disa makes copies of Tarmogoyf, the actual card never made it into the Precon deck. This guy will be massive and count as a Lhurgoyf, which you’re able to put into play if milled into your graveyard.

Having trample is a bonus, but with all the milling you will be doing, he will have fairly good stats even if other players do not have any in their graveyards.

Creature - Imp

This creature is a fantastic blocker because very few people will want to attack this imp directly. However, it also allows you to Dredge 5, discard, and bring him back.

Life from the Loam

Sorcery

This card allows you to get back any lands you lost, such as milling or dredging.

Creature - Shapeshifter

This card becomes a Tarmogoyf and a Lhurgoyf, which is excellent for Disa’s abilities. Additionally, it gets bigger and better every time your opponents cast spells.

Liliana of the Veil

Legendary Planeswalker - Liliana

Some of the Planeswalkers included in the Precon are less than ideal, but a second alternate version of Liliana allows you to discard a Lhurgoyf and put it into play while making opponents discard something they may not like as much.

Land

Any of the bond lands of this type were suggested by Guys That Magic as good inclusions for this deck, giving you untapped resources that turn and give you multiple options.

There are a lot of creatures on this list, but all of them synergize well together, and they fill up your graveyard with more and more creatures to build upon. You are looking for a large discard pile full of creatures, and many of these can bring themselves back or build on what is already there.

Cards To Cut From The Graveyard Overdrive Precon Deck

Cut For Efficiency

With every upgraded card, another card has to be taken out. Most of these are just cards that do their job less efficiently, but there are other suggested cuts. The goal is to make your deck work as quickly and efficiently as possible, and taking out the cards listed below in favor of those above will help you achieve that goal.

As before, this is not the full set of cut cards suggested by Guys That Magic; it is just 10 of the first ones to go.

If you do not have the $100 to purchase all the cards suggested by Guys That Magic, other options exist. You have a breadth of choices throughout the entire card database, and one of the important things tolearn in Commander inMagic: The Gatheringis that you will not see all of your 100 card decks. However, one suggested option from YouTuberPubStomp MTGis Rise of the Dark Realms, which can upgrade your deck fairly and win the game for you the turn it is played.
