Summary
Criminal Minds: Evolutionshowrunner Erica Messer has addressed Voit’s whisper to Luke, explaining more about its meaning while also revealing when audiences will learn more about what he said. The premiere episodes ofCriminal Minds: Evolutionseason 2shows the team investigating Gold Star, a mysterious serial killer with a connection to Voit. While the BAU is using the imprisoned antagonist to aid in their investigation, he ends up whispering something mysterious into Luke’s ear at the end of episode 2.
Speaking withEntertainment Weekly, Messer addressed what Voit whispered to Luke, saying thatanswers will be revealed inCriminal Minds: Evolutionseason 2, episode 3.The showrunner explained how what he says could pit Luke and Prentiss against one another, but also how information from such a character might not be so trustworthy. Check out what Messer had to say below:

The good news is the audience will hear it at the top of episode 3, so you don’t have to wait long. But basically this is in his whole social contagion idea that if somebody tells you something, you have to decide if it’s true or not. He whispers something about how Prentiss knows something detrimental [that] she’s never told the team about. So why would Voit know this, right? [Luke] is so angry in that moment, but also, is it true? So you see him in the very next episode talking to Prentiss about it. He’s not going to let it stew. But he’s mad that Voit would have any intel about the team to get under his skin.
Voit’s Whisper To Luke Might Be An Attempt To Sabotage The BAU
Theend ofCriminal Minds: Evolutionseason 2, episode 2creates a major cliffhanger, as it seems like Voit might be trying to cause discord within the ranks of the BAU. Whatever he told Luke, it caused him to get incredibly angry. Given Messer’s confirmation about what the serial killer whispered,it seems Luke and Prentiss might end up at odds with one another in episode 3. It’s also possible they’ll both come to terms with something the prisoner knows that he’s seemingly not supposed to.
A major theme of season 2 appears to be the idea of “social contagion,“or that behaviors can spread between people like a virus. This is how Voit claims to have crafted his serial killer network, specifically utilizing the Internet as a social engineering tool. Now, it seems he might be trying to use those same tactics in real life with the BAU, pitting them against one another with his knack for making people do what they normal wouldn’t. This could spell disaster for the team should they put faith in everything he says.

At the same time, though, the information he provides them will be vital to catching Gold Star, meaning they have to trust him to some extent. Whilewhatever Voit told Lukecould just be him trying to get under the team’s skin, the rest ofCriminal Minds: Evolutionseason 2 will still see the BAU needing to put their trust in him. This means everyone will need to be on alert, doing a careful balancing act between believing their prisoner and keeping a watchful eye on his true motivations.
