Divergent Series: Ascendant - Why The Final Movie Was Canceled

The Divergent Series: Ascendant was supposed to wrap up the franchise with a TV movie. Here is why the final Divergent movie was canceled.

In the novel, not only does Four learn about his “damaged” status and that he’s not completely Divergent, but learning that Tris is genetically “pure” upsets him. Four works alongside Nita and others to stop the release of a death serum – meanwhile, Tris takes the mission of resetting the Bureau with a memory serum, but it’s a suicide mission as she will have to get through the death serum. When he returns from the city,Four learns of Tris’ deathand is stopped by Christina from taking a memory serum to forget Tris and the pain of her loss.

Four goes on to work for the city’s representative in the government two years later, and with his friends, he scatters Tris’ ashes by zip-lining, confronting his fear of heights to honor her memory. Tris’ death in theAllegiantnovel has been criticized by fans of the books, so it’s unknown ifAscendantwould have included it, but it would have surely expanded more on Four’s story.
