In a preview forWonder Woman #10by Tom King and Daniel Sampere,America’s secret king Sovereignhas given up on trying to personally break Diana. As Wonder Woman washes up on an unknown island, Sovereign comments on the disappointment he felt facing off against her.
Wonder Woman wakes up and gets her bearings on the island while the Sovereign remarks on thingslike the Lasso of Liesdidn’t succeed as he’d hoped. However, the Sovereign notes that whilehe may have failed to take down Wonder Woman, Cheetah, who looms in the island’s woods, can do the job.
Wonder Woman’s Newest Antagonist Confirms Cheetah is Her Strongest Villain
Fearing the threat Wonder Woman presented to his secret rule over America, the Sovereign launched a campaign to discredit and defeat the mighty Amazon. He stirred up a wave of controversy to turn the public against all Amazons, then sent the full might of the Military after her. When that failed, Sovereign brought Diana’s villains together and they managed to capture her (unaware it was part of a plan Wonder Woman had formed). Sovereign used his Lasso of Lies to break her will and when that failedhe kept her imprisoned for months on end, yet Wonder Woman remained strong.
Cheetah has largely stayed out of things involving the Sovereign. Even when he was recruiting Wonder Woman villains to take her down, Barbara Minerva was nowhere to be seen. The Sovereign knows a lot of details about Diana, such as her past, her relationships, and the threats she’s faced as a hero. He’s almost certainly aware of how many times Wonder Woman and Cheetah have fought and how her speed and strength rival the Amazon’s. It’s killing the Sovereign that he has to turn for help,but his desperation shows how strongly he believes Cheetah can defeat Wonder Woman.
